This book studies the relationship between Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein as there were doubts about the relations between them because they had different ideologies and political agendas.
Al-Zarqawi lived in Iraq during Saddam’s regime and planned terrorist attacks outside Iraq including the assassination of high ranking U.S. diplomat Lawrence Folly in Jordan.
Al-Zarqawi and his organization in Iraq became part of the international network of Al- Qaeda after the fall of Saddam’s regime. As a result, it posed an even greater serious threat than any other time, for the region, Europe in general, and the U.S. in particular.
Discussed in this book are Al Qaeda’s plans to attack the West, its attacks in Iraq, and relations with bin Laden, among other things. Dr. Hamid Al-Bayati had concluded the following in this book:
• Terrorism must be rid of in Iraq, Al-Zarqawi group, bin Laden and Al-Qaeda are trying to make Iraq a safe haven for terrorism.
• Al Qaeda targeted everybody in Iraq; they targeted Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Turkoman, Muslims, and Christians.
• Terrorism in Iraq can easily spread to other countries in the region. We have seen terrorist attacks in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt…etc.
• Saddam’s regime harbored terrorists in Iraq such as Zarqawi and supported terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda.
• Saddam’s regime supported all kinds of international terrorism such as the assassination attempt of former President George Bush (senior) in Kuwait.
• The demise of Saddam’s regime has made Iraq, the region, and the world, much safer.
